Wadi Rum, Jordan

Jordan

,

Despite a turbulent region, Jordan emerges here as a place of welcome and wonder: Christmas Day in Petra, star-filled nights in Wadi Rum, mosaics and ruins at Jerash and Madaba, and a moving pilgrimage to Mount Nebo and Bethany. A gentle nudge toward your own sacred journey in Jordan.

Despite the countries on its borders, Jordan is a wonderful place to visit. In December 2019, a friend and I had a couple of days exploring the archeological sites, museums and street life of Amman before touring to Jerash, Umm Qais, Madaba, Mount Nebo, Umm ar Rases, Petra, Little Petra, Wadi Rum, Karak, the Dead Sea and Bethany in Jordan.

Our itinerary was perfect. It was a dream come true to experience Petra, one of the most important world heritage sites, on Christmas Day with smaller crowds and mild weather. The Roman archeological sites and mosaics – in museums and in situ – were superb. While trekking and sleeping in the Wadi Rum desert was the highlight overall, the pilgrimage to Mount Nebo and then Bethany on Jordan was also unforgettable.

I hope these pictures give you a nudge to visit Jordan on a sacred journey. If you would like to explore whether this is the right place for you please reach out via 8 Pilgrims.

Namaste.
