Gaia and beyond

A wellness retreat at Gaia Oasis in Tejakula, Bali — crystal sound, meditation, writing and the deep rest of a place dedicated to healing. (3 min read)

Located in the Tejakula district in north Bali, about 2 hours drive from Ubud, is “Gaia Oasis”. It is a small resort/retreat (11 bungalows for about 40 guests) on the Indian Ocean in an area which is a long way from the haunts of the ugly Australian on vacation in the south.

Gaia was established by a collective with a vision for a centre for healing… so it is not an ordinary resort… but one can just go there for a rest – which is what I did. There are daily yoga and meditation classes, as well as a day spa offering various body treatments (very inexpensively by western standards). There is also a seminar room available for use by groups for retreats and classes.

Fortunately, there were very few guests during my stay. I chose to do my own yoga and meditation and swim lots in the beautifully warm Indian Ocean… rest and read… and concentrate my efforts on trying out the day spa menu! The remoteness, the quiet, the beautiful environment and great staff made this the perfect place for me. I hardly spoke for the first 4 days – blissful.

Back in Ubud on Thursday, I was introduced to a Balinese healer with an amazing gift – a very strong electric current running through her body all the time. As she massages you it feels like a gentle tens machine. The work is pure and it was humbling to meet such a beautiful soul doing God’s work. I dont presume to understand all that was done, but a few hours after the treatment I noticed that all the pain I had been experiencing from my neck had disappeared (and is still gone a few days later).

I’m writing this post on a bright and crisp Sydney morning. I’m home for a couple of days before leaving for Brasil (and beyond). I’m still jet-lagged and integrating all the experiences of the last couple of weeks – the completion of my employment, the crystal sound course and all the associated experiences, Gaia and the beautiful souls with whom I have shared this time. However, the one constant in all of this has been the assistance of the good spirits – my gratitude for this benevolence is eternal. There has been an opening for me of a new way of working – using the silicon quartz crucibles – and I’m looking forward to the unfoldment of this.
